Whatever you decide here are the 5 things you should look for in choosing a chiropractor.
Common Questions & Answers
What is wrong with me?
In over 20 years of being a Chiropractor it is rare to find a perfect spine. Chiropractors look for a condition known as Vertebral Subluxation, and we believe it is an epidemic. Just look at people as they sit, sleep, stand, drive and perform regular daily activities. Subluxations exist with or without symptoms. Once your health story has been discussed the doctor will determine if you are a chiropractic candidate.
Can you help me?
If you have a subluxation only Chiropractic can help you. There is no exercise or pill, potion or lotion that can re align a subluxation. Only the specific chiropractic adjustment can do that. I will tell you this, if you don’t do something to correct the subluxation it will not get better on its own, it will only get worse and cause more severe problems in the future, guaranteed.
Yet there is only one way to find out if you are a chiropractic candidate and that is by performing and completing a chiropractic examination and if necessary chiropractic x-rays. X-rays may be required so the doctor can see the amount of damage that your spine has been through and to give him a complete blueprint of you spinal health. This also helps in determining how much chiropractic care you may need.
How long will it take?
Everyone is different, yet everyone is the same. The average time it takes to get stabilized and relief from your symptoms is usually 4 -12 weeks of care, requiring anywhere from 20 – 30 adjustments. This is no different than healing a broken bone, or repairing your body after a major trauma. First let’s talk about the first 14 to 28 days. If you want to see any results you must commit to following the initial recommendations for the first 30-60 days. I know chiropractic will work for anyone if they give their body the time it needs to heal and adapt to change. This initial schedule is intensive and structured to allow your body to heal and begin changing. In most cases the new patient begins with adjustments 3 times per week for the first 2-4 weeks and then 2 times per week for the next 30 days. We will perform progress exams at 30, 60 and 90 days and possibly take new films at 90 days.
Let’s look at the 10 factors that affect your response to care.
Age, new or chronic challenge, degree of damage, degree of nerve irritation, postural distortion, nature of trauma, genetic factors, environmental factors, current health levels, your commitment to follow through with care and more.
Please understand that a patient who wants correction of their spine it may take anywhere from an additional 6-12 months to correct your spinal misalignment to the best possible alignment for you.
Have you ever seen a teenager with braces? Aren’t they on for years? Chiropractic is more complicated than orthodontics for the simple reason that your 24 vertebrae keep moving and that I won’t immobilize your bones as an orthodontist does. Then if you choose, we can consider a wellness plan to keep you healthy and continue to maintain and even continue to improve your spinal alignment.
How much will it cost?
That is a good question and a simple one to address. Depending on the type of insurance plan that your company purchased for you and the amount of care you will need we will need to do some research for you to figure that out. There are many insurance carriers in the market and we work with the best to help you get the best care and coverage you deserve.
NEW in 2011 we also have a contracted a discount chiropractic health care company, Chiropractic Lifecare of America, which provides you the patient the opportunity to receive chiropractic care when you do not have insurance or an insurance deductible that is out of reach.
